Great Teamwork, Lads!

The Northwest Property Rugby 7-a-side Tournament was played at Wilmslow Rugby Union Football Club on Sunday 2nd May. The event was organised by Fraser Higson, of Creative Breaks, who was a friend of Nikki Bevan's, Founding Editor of In Circulation.

Fraser writes: "The rugby for the day was good, not too many teams were spectacular and none were very bad - lots of mediocre teams which always makes for an entertaining day. Plenty of cuts and bruises and sore aching bodies still limping around Cheshire. But everyone with a smile on their face saying how good it was to be there for the day, which is always a great boost.

The raffle raised a fabulous £340 (with more to come from a company cheque) to help support this magazine, which was started six months before Nikki died in August 1997. Nikki edited and helped produce the first issue.

Any funds raised for the magazine which are in excess of production costs are used to support leukaemia research at the M.R.I.

A pub for all seasons!

The Leather's Smithy InnThis stone built inn dates from the 18th Century, and has a spectacular setting in the hills on the edge of Macclesfield Forest. It gets its name from William Leather, a local farrier who in 1821 obtained the first licence to sell beer and porter. With its cosy interior, stone flags and open fires, the pub is popular with walkers, fishermen and country lovers and caters for all tastes.

The views from the windows overlooking the waters of Ridgegate Reservoir make The Leather’s Smithy truly a pub for all seasons. There is a large selection of summer starters and winter warmers, priced to suit all pockets and the warm and friendly welcome add greatly to one’s enjoyment. In the bar you will find a wide selection of traditional hand-pulled beers, ciders and lagers, an impressive stock of around 80 different malt whiskies, with gluhwein to warm you up in the winter.

Over the last three years, publicans Dorothy and Paul Hadfield have collected about £5,000 for Leukaemia Care and the Nova Appeal at the MRI. Sharon and Paul Worsley, who started the Nova Appeal in memory of their son Simon, are regulars at the Leather’s Smithy - a great favourite of theirs. Before her recent trip to Barcelona for THAT football game, Dorothy dressed a teddy in the familiar red and white strip and raffled it, which added £60 to the giant whisky bottle on the bar.
