The winner of the New Media Company of the
Year category in the Excellence in Cumbria Awards has grown from humble
beginnings.
The Dedicated Partnership was set up as a part time concern by Paul Johnson
in 1993 while he was studying for a PhD in glaciology at university.
After completing his studies, he went full-time in 1996, operating from
a bedroom of his parents home. Today, the firm is based at offices in
Maude Street and employs three staff.
As well as distributing literature for tourist attractions, the firm has
earned a growing reputation for its internet work.
Today, the firm has more than 2,000 clients throughout the UK, including
Ascot Racecourse, Chester Zoo and the Museum of London, as well as doing
work overseas for businesses in the United States, Singapore, South Africa
and most recently in Saudi Arabia.
The Dedicated Partnership also set up and maintains the
Lake District's first Web cam, overlooking Windermere from Miller
Howe's restaurant, and last year launched a
special website to help the county fight back in the wake of the foot-and-mouth
epidemic.
More recently, the business has focused on the UK tourism market and developed
its own search engine, AardvarkTravel.net,
which links to more than 10,000 Web sites worldwide. Dr. Johnson said
he was 'over the moon' to win the award, and paid tribute to the help
he received from his parents.
